Paediatric First Aid - Sittingbourne, Kent

This two-day OFSTED approved In House course will provide all practitioners with the confidence to deal with emergencies involving the children in their care. It is suitable for teachers, child minders, nursery practitioners, pre-school and after school club staff and staff at residential children’s homes.

Objectives

On successful completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • understand their role as a first aider including the use of available equipment and the procedures for recording accidents
  • manage an emergency and act safely, promptly and effectively
  • administer practical First Aid to casualties in a range of emergencies
  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries
  • recognise the presence of major illness and apply general first aid principle in its management

Course Structure

This course is two days (12 contact hours) in duration

The main topics covered are:

  • priorities of First Aid
  • resuscitation of adults, children and infants
  • dealing with serious bleeding, wounds, soft tissue injuries and shock
  • injuries to bones including serious spinal injury
  • dealing with choking casualties
  • First Aid for many childhood ailments
  • carrying out a thorough injury / illness assessment

Course assessment

Delegates are continuously assessed throughout the two days. On completion they will receive a Paediatric First Certificate and Wallet card which is valid for three years
