Introduction
: Intended for managers and supervisors.

The Aims: To ensure that those who are required to manage safely and effectively in compliance with both their organisation's policy and best practice.

The Objectives: On Completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • understand the role of risk assessment in a health and safety management system
  • outline the main requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • outline the techniques required for accident investigation and the human behaviours involved
  • identify workplace hazards and the hierarchies of controls
  • prepare active monitoring checklists and use them in carrying out monitoring and reviews in the workplace
  • explain the purpose of a health and safety audit.

Course Structure: The course is arranged into 7 modules and provides an understanding of the knowledge and
skills required to contribute to an effective health

  • safety management
  • active and reactive monitoring
  • risk assessment and risk control
  • health and safety legislation
  • hazards in the workplace
  • reviewing and audit.

Assessment of the Course: There is a multi-choice assessment paper and a project. Successful delegates will be awarded an Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) certificate.
