Course Dates

Introduction: Anyone involved in design, management or health and safety on construction projects.

The Aims: To give delegates the knowledge and skills to enable them to recognise hazards and know how to control them.

The Objectives: On Completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • understand risk assessment and control
  • understand the main requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007
  • distinguish between the duties and responsibilities of the employer, employees, clients, contractors and sub-contractors
  • assess the competence of contractors and sub-contractors
  • outline the techniques of accident investigation
  • understand human error and how to reduce it
  • prepare and use active monitoring checklists.

Course Structure: There are 7 modules

  • investigating and avoiding accidents, incidents and ill-health
  • health and safety legislation
  • risk assessment, risk control and safety management
  • reactive monitoring
  • active monitoring
  • controlling common construction hazards
  • human factors

Assessment of the Course: Delegates will sit a multi-choice assessment paper and a practical workplace assessment.  Successful delegates will receive an Insititution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) certificate.

Course Length: Four days – open and in-house
