NEBOSH - Conversion Package for National Certificate in Construction Safety & Health

Course Dates

Audience: Students must already have a NEBOSH General Certificate taken within the last three years.

Aims: To provide those who already have the NEBOSH National General Certificate with a more in-depth knowledge of the requirements of health and safety in the construction industry.

Objectives: By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify construction hazards and suggest appropriate means of reducing the risk they represent.
  • Understand and apply health and safety legislation, in particular the legislation applying to construction work.
  • Make an inspection of a construction site and write a report to management on the findings, which is both persuasive and practical

Course Structure:

Day 1:   Legal aspects specific to construction

  • Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007
  • Construction (Head Protection) Regs 1989
  • Refresher on: HaSaWA, MHSWR, HSG65

Day 2:   General site issues

  • Work at height
  • Confined spaces
  • Excavation
  • Demolition

Day 3:   Work equipment, mechanical handling

  • Work equipment, hand tools and machinery used on sites
  • Mechanical handling on sites

Day 4:   Biological and physical hazards

  • Asbestos - cement dust and wet cement
  • Lead
  • Wood dust
  • Weil's disease

Physical Hazards

  • Vibration
  • Radiation
  • Noise

Day 5:   Monitoring in construction

  • Site inspections
  • Management responsibilities for policy revision and implementation

Assessment of the Course: One written exam paper and an unaided inspection of a construction site and the preparation of a report to management on the finding of the inspection.  Students will generally be exempt from NGC1 exam, please ask on application.

Course Length: The course consists of 5 lecture days, ½ day revision, ½ day practical assessment and 1 day of written examinations.
